Brenda Townzen is a seasoned Flea Market gardener…and I’m not sure she knows, but she’s also expert in creating little garden gems I call ‘pocket gardens.’ Each one could be an individual, but all of these shown are jewels in her crown of a garden.
Pocket gardens can be numerous, like the vignettes in Brenda’s garden, and can be fit into a very small garden space, as well! Each one, you’ll see, has a ‘background’ an ‘anchor’ piece, accessories and flowers!
“I have always been an avid flea market shopper and have in the past had booths of my own . I started seeing really cute ideas online about planting and gardening “ flea market style .” I immediately fell in love with the idea and then there was no stopping me!”
Brenda tells us she couldn’t help loving to garden, “As far as getting started, my Mom, Aunts and Grandmothers all loved flowers and gardening. We put in an ‘in-ground pool’ over 30 years ago. My husband and I did the landscaping around the pool and at first we only planted shrubs. As the year passed I started adding hanging baskets and a few wrought iron plant stands with red geraniums for color.
Set off an area with a quarter or half circle of wall blocks to create a neat edging. The rusty wheel is the anchoring piece and all other elements compliment it. A shepherd’s hook with lacy birdcages contrast. White, green and rust!
“All the beautiful light green sedum stayed pretty all winter. I’m going to thin it out a little and add a couple of different things to this old tool box.”
Brenda says,”At an estate sale, I always look outside and in the garage first! I love to find a treasure that made someone smile. This past summer a friend went with me to a fantastic sale , we were allowed to walk around outside before it started. Since my friend wasn’t that interested, I pointed out things I wanted and when the sale started we both started shopping! I got lots of treasures because she helped me!
These tubs were my best find and for a great price!
My husband totally supports me and we enjoy creating lots of flower beds and vignettes. We have a very nice sized yard. The pool area and the grassy area are separated by a picket fence. We basically do individual areas and mostly all containers. I have so much fun hunting for and adding to our fun and eclectic gardens!
“I went to a local nursery near me on Sunday afternoon , went home and re-created an arrangement I saw there. I love how it turned out,” Brenda says.
Brenda says, “Here is my garden shelter. My floor is red brick pavers and also has a tin roof.” Here the four doors create the ‘background and the tea table and chairs are the anchoring piece. Then the fun begins!
“I love red too! Most of my plants are red! I’m obsessed with red and white and rust!” Brenda exclaims. We love your garden, Brenda,…all the colors of it and admire very much all your charming vignettes.
