Festive Ways to Decorate Your Porch for Christmas

Ammie Peters designed beautifully festive decorations for he front and side porches and all her ideas are simple to do! If you have a covered porch of any size, these ideas are for you! Ammie lives and gardens near Ashland, Mississippi and loves to decorate her garden with flea market finds in every season.  See what she’s done for this Christmas….

Often, garden and porch vignettes consist of three main items. Here, Ammie has placed interesting items on either side of this rustic bench with colorful cushions. The dark red bird house post can be used in many decorations through the year, but when a garland winds around it it means Christmas is getting near!

 

Here, Ammie three main items or ‘anchors’ are the barrel, the ladder and the pumpkin.  As you see, the items don’t need to all be large.

The color red unifies all the decorations on Ammie’s porch. If you use too many colors,…your decor can look a bit mish-mash.

Ammie’s pumpkin snowman, could have very well been used for Halloween decorating!

 

A milkcan serves as a ‘end table’ next to the chair. A charming tree sits upon it.

Bring on the hot cocoa! I’m sure Ammie would welcome us all here on her cozy porch.

 

The lamp, the deer and the birdhouse are the three ‘main items’ decorating this short ladder.  These diminutive ladders are real treasures to us Flea Market Gardeners and can be used as a base for many many projects in and out of the garden

.

“Here is a Nature Wreath I made, using cuttings of pine, jasmine, holly, rosemary and cuttings from a couple of those bushes that I can’t remember their names from my yard,” Ammie says, laughing. “I attached it to two different size embroidery hoops, making it look like a Christmas ornament.”

Wire two embroidery hoops nested inside one another.  Then gather up some evergreens from the garden and tie with a ribbon.  Attach to the hoops with more thin wire.

 

Ho, Ho, Ho!  Tape two letter stencils together, “H” and “O” and dab white paint through them  on any surface as Ammie has done on this vintage bench.

 

Ammie added greenery, a small saying printed on paper and a burlap and red ribbon bow to this vintagey old lamp to hang by her door.

Let the snooze-fest begin!  Cozy and cat-tested, this porch is ready for good friends and warm conversation, a cup of tea and a plate of cookies.  Come on, friends!
