Fun garden vignettes from vintage doors

Using recycled doors as garden backgrounds

Here at Flea Market Gardening, we’re always looking for nice ‘backgrounds’ to feature our plants, flowers and containers. Tina Palmer came up with a goodie! Tina says, “I put three old doors together that I found Flea Marketing.. I love old doors!”

Tina says, “First I buried them about 3 inches in the ground at the angle I wanted. Wedge them in good and tight …..then I used brackets or hinges to secure them! Put your dirt around them and pack it in. Then the fun part, decorate! I used grapevine and flowers on middle door ….oh, forgot the best part …..broke out window on the middle door and hung a mirror in its place, from behind. Cascading roses are in the pot.”

If you believe that contact with the ground will degrade the bottoms of your doors, make a ‘foundation’ for them from treated lumber set into the ground or lift off the ground a bit with upright 4×4 posts.

 

Rhonda Schlenker says, “This is my ‘door fence’ in my backyard. Everyone thought I was crazy, but now they all love it.”

 

“I just finished my newest project” says Josie Laine when she recently shared her ‘stars’ pic on FMGing, ” and the wash board was my grandmothers (who) was born in 1900.”

 

 

 

Brenda Townzen says, “Here is mine! My floor is red brick pavers and also has a tin roof.”

 

Gail Brunke says, “I made a door screen used two doors and chalk painted on one door for garden sayings.”

 

Jeanne Sammons says, “I used this color ‘In the Pines’ for a door & a different blue for the motel chairs.”

 

Kenda Hernandez says, “I enjoy collecting gardening tools, keys, etc. to add onto my door.”

 

 

Jodi Mihelich tells us, “This is my “little shack out back”. I found a great deal on old doors and had seen several photos of similar ideas and this is what I came up with. Now the project is coming up with a neat fence idea to cover up all the ugly behind my little shack.”

 

 

Marie Wirth says, “I also love a great door in the garden! This one weighs about a ton, solid wood and a thick beveled window, way too heavy to move very far, so it made it to this corner, I put a planter box on it and it’s home!”

 

Linda LoBianco’s door serves as a whimsical focal point up on a rise in her beautiful flower garden.  She framed the door in a rustic frame and attached a vintage ceramic wall sink she can actually use when creating bouquets. In the garden are Sedum ‘Autumn Joy,’ center, and clockwise, yellow and white Yarrow, pink Coneflower, pink Phlox and Moss rose.

 

 

 

Deanne, wanted a porch and created her porch!  She had two steps built next to an old shed wall, attached a vintage screen door and set out to decorate it accordingto her dream.  Just add flowers in Spring!
