Matt’s cool cream separator fountain

Garden Junk, How to: Easy project ideas

One of a Kind Fountain for the garden…

When you acquire a very unique object from the past, it’s thrilling to find a practical and pretty purpose for it in the garden,…to show off a family heirloom or spotlight a remnant from the past at which to to marvel.

Matt Gerry ‘inherited,’ really rescued, an old cream separator from his sister’s yard when she moved house. It was originally used to separate cream from milk, but Matt had an idea! He thought it would make an excellent fountain on his porch. Now, he has finished it and is pretty thrilled with it.

Matt says, ” I bought this nice little pump, a Pacific Hydro Star pump, at harbor freight for $11.  To be honest I probably could have got by with a weaker pump.  This is a 200gpm (gallons per minute) pump and I have it turned down as weak as it’ll go.  Some 5/8 inch plastic tubing was bought at Lowe’s.”

“Water from my fountain is spilling into an old milk can,” Matt tells us. “The milk can had some rusting on the bottom which actually worked out great as I ran my electrical wire and pump tubing out the bottom.  I used a concrete block to get the can off the ground enough to run the wire and tube.”

“Inside the can I put a small plastic bucket and made a funnel out of a bucket from the dollar store.”

How creative! I love this. My plan is to make some sort of fountain using antique watering cans. Thanks so much for sharing.
