We love finding foliage in our gardens in ALL seasons, even winter…so we can put it in vases… Whether it’s pine boughs or other evergreens, dried seed heads from last year’s flowers or pine cones, your garden is full of decorating possibilities. Cherrie’s pine cone wreath reminds us that our gardens can be ‘harvested’ from Spring to Winter.
“My morning project…using my Pinecones as they fall from the tree….” Cherrie Carine says, “No wire …the form holds them…gently push cones into the form past the first two rows of cone petals..the cones will stay secure…the cones will also open more with age and in turn make the arrangement tighter…I made a pine cone wreath that is 10 years old and still good as new..”
Cherrie says, “I gathered the cones that had fallen this morning…and inserted the first row of three pushed into the wire form.

It says to bake the Pine Cones first?? I never have... Maybe if the wreath is to be hung in the house?
All my wreaths are hung outside.. they last for years..if the wreath gets a little ragged with age, just pop the old cones off and replace with new ones. I find there has never been a need to bake first...
The baking is for if you bring the wreath inside and for if there is sticky sap. Out west our cones have that annoying sap when handling..
in colder climates the cones will close back up again, baking them helps keep them open wider!
What oven temp and how long? Thank you. Wreath is beautiful! Can a Styrofoam for be used in place of wire?
Bake big pine cones in your oven, 20 minutes at 200º, smaller ones may need less time.
