Pretty, classy planter!

Two styles of recycled metal planter jazz up the garden! Turn trash to garden treasure to show off your summer annuals next time! See them both!

First, Myra Glandon upcycled a stacked metal basket planter and put her own stylish spin on it. She placed the baskets on copper pipe stands and staggered the heights for the most effect.  See how you can adapt this idea using easily ‘found’ thrift shop items.

Myra tells how she made the transformation. “These used to be a three-tiered metal planter that rusted apart. My sister rescued it from her neighbors trash for me. The bottom of each basket still had a small section of pipe attached so I set them on pieces of copper pipe at staggered heights.”
Myra planted flowers with deep saturated colors that we love so much about annuals. You know they’ll bloom they’re hearts out for you if you continue to snip off or pinch off spent blossoms.

The tree here is a weeping willow that is 133 years old!

Purchased new, these metal baskets can be pricey, so snap them up when you see them at yard and tag sales or at thrift shops OR in the neighbor’s trash!

 

Second, Winona Spinks says,”Here’s another up-cycled project complete…I combined an old vanity stool and a faux ‘stained glass’ light fixture and turned it into an impressive planter.

Directions –

Step 1: remove the seat from the stool.

Step 2: split a piece of 1/4″ tubing and wrap it around the top rim & tabs (for cushion between the metal stool and glass shade).

Step 3: turn light shade upside down on stool base.

Step 4: punch holes in a pie pan (for drainage) and place in bottom of light shade. Step 5: fill approx. 1/3 to 1/2 with potting soil.

Step 6: add plants

Step 7: fill around plants with more soil as needed.

Step 8: ENJOY!

 

Winona says,  “This is my other light creation. I see these type lights frequently at garage sales, thrift stores & Goodwill. Needless to say, I won’t pass up an opportunity to get more of them.”
