It’s sad to think, after all the expense of buying an elaborate fountain for the garden, that it’s reached the end of its life. What better than to keep a broken fountain and create a beautiful planter overflowing with flowers? That’s what Sandi Wood thought, too!
See how she transformed the formal fountain permanently installed in her entry garden into a delightful garden feature.
Sandy and her husband had this fountain installed in a flagstone patio just outside her front door. She could imagine it bubbly nicely as her guests arrived, however,…they never could get the water regulated correctly for the amount of flow and sound! So, she transformed it into a splendid two layer flower bed, she says.
Sandi planted Petunias, Angelonia, Red Salvia, on the bottom and Purslane, Euphorbia Diamond Frost and more Petunias on top.
As you can see, the pink Purslane is very happy here!
Jenny Alexander says, “My fairy garden is finished. This is the old fountain you see above, but now the fairies have arrived. The fairy garden stone sign is from a shop in Hamilton, Ohio The pink is allysum. The tall is baby blue eyes. some sedum..creeping thyme ..all annuals.”
Brenda Propst tells us, “My new succulent garden is in an old fountain! We love it in the middle of the daisies. It isn’t summer here without the daisies blooming.”
This solar fountain quit one day, never to spout again, so it was filled with creeping thyme, the elfin kind and a few other small scale plants. It already had the mushroom, which became a fairy house and the bird figurines hat keep the fairies company.
Remember those tabletop fountains of the 90s? They would make excellent dish gardens!
