Many fairy garden kits come with a tiny picket fence, but you can easily make your own!
Note: For this little fence, I used tongue depressor-sized sticks found at a craft store and split them length wise with a paper cutter,…You could use a craft knife or scissor,…the wood is soft. I wanted a pointed tip to the top of the fence.
You can also sharpen the tips of regular Popsicle sticks to make small pickets.
Take four long lengths of wire and clip one pair of wire pieces in the clipboard. Spacing them out, clip the other pair of wires in to the clipboard, to make four wire lengths, two on each side as shown.
Make two twists before adding the first stick. Place the first stick sandwiched between the two wires and make a twist,…or two,…between each stick.
The first twist is the most important! Cinch the first twist tight and it will hold.
When you reach the end of your little fence, twist the wire three or four times.
Now, you can paint the fence or leave it plain. Wired together fencing like has the advantage of being able to be bent and curled around your miniature garden scene. Make them for indoor ‘Christmas Village’ decoration, too!
Note: Try this with twigs cut from clippings for a twig fence or bundles of very thin twigs for a thatched fence look. Thatched roofs can also be wired together this way.
I used spray paint for this fence piece so it would hold up in the weather. two years old, so far!
Several twist space out the pickets in Jennifer’s wood-stained fence
Two short lengths of fence line each side of a small path in Kay’s mini garden. A tiny fence like this can add detail to any miniature garden or container.
