Easy project for making colorful and edible decorations for your winter evergreen trees.  Lucky birds!  Hollow out oranges, string cereal and berries and mold tiny birdseed rings.

Have fun this winter making little decoration treats for your birds from oranges, apples, berries and birdseed.  All these decorations are easy enough to do with a child and they love seeing the birds enjoy the treats!

Make a fun molded bird seed wreath

Deconstructed orange!

Slice an orange into 1/2 inch slices, string on twine and put a berry, small pieces of fruit or some Cherrios between each slice.

5 Tips for best bird feeding..

# 1 Tip  – Quality Bird Seed: most bird love black oil sunflower seeds

# 2 Tip  – Location Place your bird feeder in a sheltered area, near where you can view the ‘diners.’

# 3 Tip  – Height: Important: Not too high or too low, eye level

# 4 Tip  – Water: It’s reason for the birds to stick around your area

# 5 Tip – Patience: Patience. If you build it, they will come!

 

Birdie cupcakes

Pack the seed mixture in the link above into cupcake papers ad top with nuts and seeds.  Hang with loops of  string.

Spread peanut butter on half an orange and press into a plate of birdseed to coat. Thread cranberries onto toothpicks for  decoration attractive to birds

Birdseed + peanut butter + TP rolls…fun for kids!

  • Scatter birdseed at the base of your tree for ground-feeding birds like doves and quail.
  • Dried sunflower heads left from your summer garden can be tucked into your tree as ‘ornaments
  • String unsalted popcorn, unsweetened cereals like Cheerios, cranberries and dried fruit.
  • Tie twine to the tip of pine cones. Spread peanut butter on the cones and roll them in birdseed.  Hang them up!
