Kim was inspired by our group, FMG, to use her gate as part of her Christmas decor. She says, “I saw it at a friends house in his workshop and told him I was going to steal it when he wasn’t looking. He gave it to me right there and then! My husband found the shovel recently and surprised me with it.”
Amp up classic Christmas colors for an energenic scene. Lights sparkel against a backdrop of emerald greens and lipstick reds. A greenery filled red wagon, a small lighted tree and some cute stuffed animals cause Lisa Collier to say, “Merry Christmoose!”
Mary Everett created a Flea Market snowman! “The body is a $1 lamp base, his head, a bowling ball, and his hat is a plain plastic flower pot.” she says. The lamp base had a rod about 3″ that the bowling ball sits on and her hubby drilled a hole to fit so she could use the other holes for eyes. His hat is tied on with clear fishing line and a scrap of fleece serves as his scarf.
Jan Brown turned an old but beautiful Christmas tree into a bird haven garden. Jan says, “I added strings of popcorn with raisins, crabapples and granny smith apple pieces to the tree!”
Arlene Brenneman’s simple porch decor is assembled from an old enamel basin filled with greens, berries, osage oranges, pinecones and an old scoop. “The Winterberries are from my garden, she says, ” the osage oranges were found along the road and the greens are free tree trimmings from Lowes hardware! I get them every year, they usually have a big box of them you can pick through.”
If you have an old chair, you have an easy start to a festive porch! Nell Stelzer took a vine wreath and made it into a nest, using a wooden bird, greenery and pine cones. She added a metal poinsettia stake and two holiday signs, hooked over the back. Nell says, “My chair is ready for Christmas, I found the cardinal watering can and had to have it.
Look around your garden for anything evergreen and fine textured. Hedge plants, holly, pines, of course, fir, spruce and hemlock and boxwood can all be used in wreaths and other porch decor. Also look for interesting branches, like manzanita, fruit tree prunings, curly willow, birch and sweet-gum.
Beverly Detlor took a simple wire hanging shelf to decorate her porch, adding fresh greens, a ribbon woven in and out, pine cones, and silk flowers. Learn to cut a five pointed star in one snip
Terresa Stoll merely hung a wreath over a window and underneath on the sill, placed three birdhouses and bird figurines. Terresa says, “My Flea Market birdhouses are looking very Christmasy after yesterday morning’s snow storm.” Frosting!
Barn Squares of America shows what can be done with just a piece of rope and greenery cut from the garden! Wire a handful of greens in a bunch and after making several, wrap and attach each one to the rope for an easy festive swag to hang.
Thressa Merriman from Redeemed Junk Market & Homestead Co. says, “I had to share my tomato cage Christmas tree fixed up for my porch! I took a small tomato cage and wrapped with chicken wire and it making a perfectly shaped Christmas tree. Then I wrapped pine garland and lights around it and topped it off with a few ornaments and some ribbon tied onto the garland. Last but not least, a cute little corrugated tin star was attached for the top. I also just happened to have a vintage plant stand that the tomato cage fit right on and it made a great base and then an old red birdbox added a little flair to the bottom.”
Billie Hayman’s potting shed mailbox is ready for Santa complete with list!
Billie loves using old shutters on her porch for decor. leaned against the house, it’s lit with Christmas lights and has a cheerful sign hung on it. A small tree in a container and left over pumpkins complete the look.
Jeanne Sammons fills a galvanized tub with greens and decorates with sparkly balls and curly willow branches, sprayed a dark red. Easy!
The little cart my hubby made for her is all decorated for winter, Christy Morrow tells us. “Hubby and I made the mittens, cardinal and the star. It also includes an old chair back, a milk stool, one of my old pails and an old birdhouse we made a few years back.”
Jan Miller is sharing her front porch Christmas decor for the year, just put it together, she says, with things from my Christmas stash. We especially like the simple stand for the birdhouse, which can be made from a length of 4×4 lumber and two small square pieces of plywood, all nailed together. a garland wound around it all needs only the angels in front to complete the vignette.
Sheila Bowden created her scene on the covered front porch which she changes with the seasons. She says, “I found the wagon at an estate sale in years past. The other things are old “goodies” I’ve had and love!”
