We all have seen bottle trees here at Flea Market Gardening, but Cherrie has taken this to a different level…a lower level! Instead of a towering tree, she gathered her wine bottles and arranged them in a tight circle and in layers to create a sparkling flower shape amongst her woody trees. Glass bottles, nails and an old tree stump is all you need.
Cherrie Carine calls this a stump flower. I think it should have another name,… “Brilliant Merry-Go-Round of Blue!” She explains, “We lost the tree during a winter storm so I used the stump to make a flower out of blue bottles…I am still putting bottles on as I find them…I recently found a tall red bottle that I plan to use for the center…it is a work in progress…
“I am starting a layer of green around the top edge” Cherries told us.
Use sturdy nails or screws, set at an angle to hold the bottles and place each one, row by row to get the spacing right.
Cherrie tells us the stump is hollowed out at top and she plants annuals in summer. She says, “I can change the top color with flower colors…such as red geraniums, red salvia, white or pink alyssum, for example.”
