Garden Tour: Meeting Billie Hayman
Now and then, we, at Flea Market Gardening, host a virtual garden tour. This gives our folks, all over, the chance to show off the blooms in their gardens no matter what season! This time we visit Billie Hayman in her Louisiana garden. QDQ26NK36QS8
Billie says, “I live in Greensburg, Louisiana, which is north of Baton Rouge. We moved here four years ago, only three years in the house, stayed in a camper a while! I have always been interested in gardening but when my husband got ill, I had to quit work and I went crazy!! Ha! I took out some savings and started in on gardening.
I feel like my grounds and the house are my canvas on which I can paint and rearrange to my heart’s content.
Billie says the vine covering her archway is an incredible Bleeding Heart Vine, also called Glory Bower ‘Clerodendrum thomsoniae.’ See it below also.
My parents had old picket fence boards that they had not used and I started with those to create the raised bed cottage garden in the back. Then I started looking for a potting shed.
I am not a patient woman, which is not always good if you’re a gardener! I found a shed kit half-price online and my husband put it together for me and then added the lean-to.
As for as my style and why I like vintage, I get that from my Mom who is a pure rustic girl. I like to mix my style up with a feminine flare.
Finding your Garden Style
Billie’s tip:
”I tell people who do not know what their style is to look at magazines and such and you will start noticing things that catch your eye every time, then your style will come through. I always like to get inspired by something, but put your own twist to it and make it your own.”
I love recycling because it is so fun to see something used in a different way than it was intended, kind of makes you look smart!
Finally,… to me, gardening is a spiritual experience and I feel very connected to my creator when I am gardening,…plus it keeps me in shape!
Thank you, Billie for allowing us into your beautiful garden!
