Festive wreaths are classic and nearly essential,…and so easy to make! Nothing is more welcoming than a holiday wreath to welcome guests or just please yourself! Many of these are handmade from recycled or found objects in the Flea Market Gardening style.
Wrapped around itself,
Red-ribboned
Evergreen, fragrant of winter forests,
Adorned with berries, baubles, bells of gold,
Tacked to the front door…
Home for the holidays.
Take a wreath frame, or a circle of wire or branches and set aside. Then gather small bunches of greenery and wrap with craft wire. Then arrange and wire each bunch to the frame. Add a bow and an ornament or decoration, even as simple as a pine cone to dangle down the middle.
Annie Steen: “I saw this idea online, and wanted to make one…what a great way to bring the out doors in! I sprayed some pine cones off white and added a few berries and greens. What do you think? ‘Tis the season to decorate!”
Mary Everett: I used one of my rusty wheels as a wreath on this section of fence that hides utility boxes.
Jeannie Rhodes: A “wintery” wreath made from Lamb’s Ear from my garden… The leaves are folded while they’re still pliable and attached to a straw or foam form. The leaves shrink a little so bare spots may need to be filled in later. The leaves were attached with paper clips that have been cut in half since they’re pretty fragile.
The finished wreath was sprayed with hairspray to help preserve it. I had one that was nice for a couple of years before bugs invaded. Keep it out of direct sunlight. I added the little rosebuds with hot glue.
Lynn LeClair’s wreath made with moss, pine cones, tree mushroom and turkey feathers, all collected from my woods.
