Upcycle a rusty old tailgate by making it into a garden bench
Transform an old vintage Chevy tailgate, a few old license plates and some awesome wagon wheels into a gorgeous outdoor bench?
This was a joint effort between Barb Buckley and her friend, Larry Bond,…Barb was the project director and Larry was the creative welder.
Barb’s inventive bench idea
“Look! I found this old rusty tailgate on eBay, Barb says, much to the surprise of the mail carrier who delivered it! This will be my really cool tailgate bench with wagon wheels as arm rests… I’m going to love it so much!! I’m so excited!”
“My tailgate wagon wheel bench is done and was delivered today, I am so excited! It is a dream come true,…thank you Sondra for posting the picture that gave me the idea.”
“Larry added the red wagon wheels that I bought from The B. Hive in Goodrich, Michigan….also, please notice the steel pieces on the backside so it doesn’t flip over.”
“The red wagon wheels actually work, so I can tilt it forward and roll it anywhere with ease, then push the back metal pieces down into the grass. The back ‘legs’ have pieces of long rebar to sink into the ground so it’s secure and doesn’t flip.
I can’t wait to get a picture with all of the grandsons sitting on this!”
“Here is my friend and maker of this wagon wheel tailgate bench… thank you so much, Larry Bond of Goodrich, Michigan, for being the genius who put this all together…”
Update!
“I am happy to finally get all five of my wonderful grandsons, Cameron, Landon, Caleb, Dylan and Jacob, whom I love more than words can say, sitting on my tailgate bench made for me last summer… As you can see, everyone in this picture is looking good!” ~~ Barb Buckley
