Why do we like Mason jars so much?
Why are they on every Flea Market gardener’s shopping list?
If you like Mason jars as much as I do,..you’ve saved everyone you’ve ever had! My favorite idea is to use the old ones as friend bouquets, perfect for giving as a hostess or visiting gift. I snag them up at thrift shops and flea markets whenever I see a ‘lost and lonely’ jar. It’s an obsession! Mostly I’ve used them to hold flowers meat for a friend, but now I have a ton of ideas for what else to do with them,…just see…
Theresa Smith “I collect them…been doing it for years! I don’t go looking for any specific kind or type. I just pick up what I run across. I use them not just for canning, but store dry goods in (I vacuum seal them), store sewing notions, or this/that. I even use them to store leftovers in the fridge! Saves space. I can re-heat and serve all in the same jar…saves on dish washing.
My mother asked me one day when I told her I want to be cremated, “Let me guess…you want to be put into a Mason jar!” I was like…”What a great idea!!” HA! People think I’m nuts…I don’t care. I just know I love Mason jars! They bring fond memories of my childhood and spending time with my beloved granny canning away. So if they put a smile on my face…why not??!”
Cathye Bordwell “I love to fill them up with vignettes for decorating, like sand & candles for outdoor lighting, mini terrariums…Just plan love the shape…”
Laura Mchugh “In my town a vegan bakery serves these yummy salads in them,… “salad jars.” You buy the salad in the jar and keep the jar….love that.”
Zandra Watson “There is just something that feels like home when I see a Mason jar. Mom used to do a lot of canning in the summer. I use half gallon ones for canisters. I store dry goods in them and vacuum seal them. I store crafts and notions in them. I put leftovers in them. I have even baked mini pies in the half pint size. Oh, and I drink out of pint Mason jars too! ”
Victoria Whitney “They bring back memories of my childhood. ”
Marie Niemann “Mine remind me of my Grandma, so I was thrilled to be given some of hers that she once used, and in fact her Mother used too. I’m going to try pressure cooker canning for the first time this year. Not with my old jars though! They are in my pantry holding staples…”
