Here I have added potting soil, and have placed my ‘boulders’ and creeping thyme, hens and chicks, moss, alyssum and a houseplant ‘that has no name.’ This is also the way I designed the pathway to the underground fairy tunnel that leads to their village. In later pictures you will see where I changed that after a couple of days of scratching my head and feeling like it was just ‘not quite’ right. meanwhile, I ordered the fairies from a friend.
As you can see in this original lay-out I had the pathway in a different spot. I moved the big rock out from behind the hens and chicks and placed it in a different spot and made a fire pit out of sticks and mixed a little flour in with the soil underneath for “ashes”. It’s a place for them to gather on a chilly evening and tell stories.
I lined it with trash bag…didn’t drill holes in this one though…The watering process for this will be heavy misting, which I have found makes these plants very happy!!!! The ground stays moist, nothing is ever “soaked” and they thrive!!! I do this with one of my others…AND of course a teaspoon of Epsom salts in the water once a month.
Two new fairies finally arrived and I added sphagnum moss to the lid. A lady at the florist and nursery told me they attach this type of moss with a glue gun and it works great… So that is what I did…Very easy!
The final garden is entitled “The Secret Garden”… and I mist it daily and check in on the fairies. I become quite attached to my gardens, but this one is headed to a craft show in August. ~~ Jeanie
