At Flea Market Gardening, succulents are one of our favorite all time types of plants, simply because they compliment our rustic and whimsical containers we love so much! Learn how you can get even more enjoyment from these stunningly seductive plants from a new book that just came out this Spring.
Succulents, our favorite!
I’ve been eager to put together this book review because I know you’ll love it as much as I do! The book is called Succulents Simplified: Growing, Designing and Crafting with 100 Easy-Care Varieties by Debra Lee Baldwin, author of two more books on succulents and published by Timber Press. This was an inspiring read to me, as I love these oddly and sometimes bizarrely shaped little creatures, often called simply Hens and Chicks.
If you think hens and chicks are the only succulent option, you’ll be in for a treat reading this book! Personally, I resorted to succulents in containers when annuals and even perennials failed to survive when Tractor man and I went off on weekends camping with the kids. I planted them to keep my sanity and ended up loving the hardy colorful little plants!
In Succulents Simplified, you not only learn how to best care for succulents, but how to do many garden imaginative projects using them. The book includes seasonal care for succulents, succulent troubleshooting and you’ll even how to make a succulent boutonniere! I laughed when I saw the photos of the forlorn dried up containers of succulents shown and read how the author took steps to revive them! This is a real-life gardening book!
The book is divided into three sections, Enjoying, growing and designing with succulents, How To projects and lastly, a list of 100 easy care succulents.
Succulents Simplified is a slick paperback book, 272 pages and includes 334 color photographs many of which are taken by the author, Ms Baldwin.
I highly, highly suggest this interesting and beautiful book to any lover of succulents and those of you who simply like to look at wonderfully inspirational pictures for ideas and inspiration. Succulents Simplified is a joy!
