Most days I’m lucky if I get around to changing a light bulb—but, I do put up a Christmas tree and a few other decorations every year (thanks mostly to my husband, AND …
sometimes a good neighbor!)
You see … every year I travel miles and miles to see what other people have created in their gardens with Christmas lights. As you can see, where I live near Washington, DC, there are lots of dazzling, mesmerizing, Christmas displays. Every neighborhood has at least one over-the-top decorator. Sometimes there are whole streets of lights …
But, none could compare with having an over-the-top Christmas house directly across the street from my house, with a perfect view through my living room and bedroom windows …
… it was the largest display in miles! People drove from everywhere in the Washington area to see my neighbor’s decorations. All I had to do was look out my front window, and there it was!
You could literally see it from a few miles away. So I could drive all around Fairfax looking at other decorations, and still easily find my way home. I couldn’t help but think it was kind of an answer to a secret wish I must have had.
One thing I noticed, though … the house with the decorations never had snow at Christmas! It melted under all the light bulbs!
Don’t let anyone say you are crazy for your over-the-top Christmas displays. I, for one, LOVE them and I know that a lot of other people do too!
(BUT if you leave up the lights after February, you are officially squirrel-ey!)

Wow ... I bet your electric bill is quite 'low' during the Christmas holidays, Stephie! You certainly must not have to turn on any 'lights!' LOL! Fun post ...enjoyed all the pics & esp your painting of 'squirrel-ey!'
Waaaaaay too much!!!
Lots of sleepless nights in your neighborhood. Glad you and your neighbors are not in one of those cooperatives where everyone pays their "fair share" of the electric bill for all the Glitz. <3 Squirrel-y
I enjoy looking at the lights but I don't have the energy to do over the top decor outside.
Wowee.... that's a LOT..... but love Christmas lights!
I'm glad I don't live next door to you or them. :)
